Love. That's what happens when you look at the latest from Lanvin, and what a good way to start off the week. It's really amazing, he has done a lot of draping, and at the same time waists are cinched. Everything looks like it would flatter any woman's body, not the norm on the high fashion catwalk. I can't wait for the knockoffs...

Lanvin Fall 09 Party Dresses

As I promised, a continuation of yesterdays Lanvin adoration - this time the eveningwear.

Anyone who reads this blog often knows I LOVE a sheath dress, a fitted dress with a cinched waist - and here we have 3 in a row - and all with the one shoulder. Perfection. And then a cute little dress with studs and a bow, that still somehow doesn't look overly fussy.

Studs are hot these days - and this dress is so much fun! Can't you just picture Natalie Portman in this? I would absolutely wear this dress, although probably with not much of a necklace, the one in the photo is a bit much.

Lanvin Fall 09 For Day

Fall fashion shows continued in Europe and this weekend Lanvin showed in Paris. Lanvin is always amazing, I have blogged about Alber Elbaz before, I think he is absolutely adorable in addition to being a complete genius. I have pulled my favorite day looks from his show (evening looks will come tomorrow)

All of these looks have a similar silhouette - fitted waist, very feminine, simple, timeless and classic. I think the pieces worth spending a lot of money on, or a lot of time looking for (or both) are pieces like this - that you can wear forever and will never look dated.

There is something about the wrap in the photo below, it makes me think of Gwyneth Paltrow's character in whatever movie she played married to Michael Douglas, and he tried to kill her. I thought her wardrobe was the most memorable part of the film - clearly the title didn't make a dent. Oh wait - A Perfect Murder, that's what it is. She plays a very wealthy heiress and dresses like this. If I had all the money necessary - I would too!

I adore these dresses as well - so easy to wear, to work or out, with a jacket, without. Whatever you want. The color and fabric of the bottom dress make me think of a dark ocean, it's gorgeous.

Lanvin

On my flight back to California I listened to an interview with Alber Elbaz(that's him to the left), the designer for French fashion house Lanvin. Lanvin is the oldest fashion house still working these days(started by Jeanne Lanvin in 1909), and after taking the helm in 2001 Elbaz has brought it back to the forefront of fashion. His designs are gorgeous, feminine and actually wearable (except for the pesky price tag). And, according to Wikipedia he was one of Time's most influential people of last year. cool. He is also Israeli (although born in Morocco) and I have noticed the past few years Israel is churning out fantastic designers.

Anyway, back to the interview; it was short (a New York Times series with or for Jet Blue I guess) but he said while he wants to make fashion relevant, it must always be beautiful, and one should never create a dress that will wear the woman. The woman should always be wearing the dress. That philosophy seems to me to separate him greatly from many of his peers.

The bags and shoes have been getting alot of press lately as well. The ballet flats are divine, and Bagsnob loves the Lanvin tote bags.
