Roland Mouret Runway Coats

I love the Roland Mouret show, everything is so meticulously designed and tailored, just look at these coats. The pleats on the one above make it so much fun.

This teal coat looks like it fits like a dress, it's incredible. I love the color and asymmetrical zipper; it's really functional and interesting at the same time.

Akris Fall 09 Show

I love Akris. I am constantly torturing myself by checking out their clothes at Saks and wishing I could afford to fill my wardrobe with it. Just look at it - it's perfectly tailored -

I don't totally understand this pair of looks - is it one dress layered? or is it a coat with the identical pleating? Whatever it is, I love it.

And here we have a fun dress -
I love this suit, I think it's one of those things that has intergenerational appeal.

Uch, I love this dress so much it hurts - look at the detail! the shape! perfection.

Abaete Sample Sale

Gilt has an Abeate sample sale going on today and tomorrow, and there are a surprising number of pieces left, including these fantastic skirts:

I love the seams and A-line shape of the first skirt, and the high-waisted slim shape of the second (great seaming detail on that one as well) There are great relatively inexpensive ways to recreate the looks I've been highlighting from the New York and Paris runways.
For an invitation to Gilt click here.

YSL Fall 09 Show

YSL showed their clothes in Paris over the past day or two, I picked out my favorites, including fantastic work clothes and a party dress.

I love these two outfits - with less exaggerated shoulders or bow they would be totally wearable. And oh yeah, then there is the cost.
I love the shape of these two dresses - one for everyday and one fantastic party dress.

Cheap Monday Cheap Shorts

It's sunny here, and not quite warm enough for shorts but I'm looking forward to summer!

Cheap Monday Samantha Shorts in Black

Aren't these so cute? I love the zipper detail, they look high end but are only $55. Gotta love Cheap Monday. If you are going on a spring break these are a must have - and would look great with those flats I posted yesterday.

Lanvin Fall 09 Party Dresses

As I promised, a continuation of yesterdays Lanvin adoration - this time the eveningwear.
Anyone who reads this blog often knows I LOVE a sheath dress, a fitted dress with a cinched waist - and here we have 3 in a row - and all with the one shoulder. Perfection. And then a cute little dress with studs and a bow, that still somehow doesn't look overly fussy.
A similar dress in velvet...

Studs are hot these days - and this dress is so much fun! Can't you just picture Natalie Portman in this? I would absolutely wear this dress, although probably with not much of a necklace, the one in the photo is a bit much.

The Flat Dilemma...Solved?

I am a flat junkie, I wear them almost every day which means that sometimes my shoes wear out. That in turn means I occasionally need a replacement. That hasn't been a problem for the past couple of years however suddenly it has become one. I just cannot find a good flat, and boy have I looked. For some reason the Cole Haan flats of late have been oddly shaped - wider and rounder than years past. And other brands that I used to see around seem to have disappeared.

And then I saw these on Revolve, and on sale no less -

Botkier Shera in Marine Patent

Look at that color. I love it.
I would wear them with pretty much everything. Black, navy, denim, cream, red, pink, orange, whatever color you wear, I cannot imagine one that wouldn't look great with these shoes. A perfect shoe to start off spring...

Lanvin Fall 09 For Day

Fall fashion shows continued in Europe and this weekend Lanvin showed in Paris. Lanvin is always amazing, I have blogged about Alber Elbaz before, I think he is absolutely adorable in addition to being a complete genius. I have pulled my favorite day looks from his show (evening looks will come tomorrow)
All of these looks have a similar silhouette - fitted waist, very feminine, simple, timeless and classic. I think the pieces worth spending a lot of money on, or a lot of time looking for (or both) are pieces like this - that you can wear forever and will never look dated.

There is something about the wrap in the photo below, it makes me think of Gwyneth Paltrow's character in whatever movie she played married to Michael Douglas, and he tried to kill her. I thought her wardrobe was the most memorable part of the film - clearly the title didn't make a dent. Oh wait - A Perfect Murder, that's what it is. She plays a very wealthy heiress and dresses like this. If I had all the money necessary - I would too!

I adore these dresses as well - so easy to wear, to work or out, with a jacket, without. Whatever you want. The color and fabric of the bottom dress make me think of a dark ocean, it's gorgeous.

The Perfect Men's Shoe

I have found what I think is the perfect shoe for many men - and it's actually an ankle boot. That can seem a little scary to men who haven't ventured into that territory before, but this Kenneth Cole New York version is really ideal, it's a great way to ease into something different and look great doing it.

Kenneth Cole New York Men's Plain 2 C Boot

It goes with jeans and trousers, comes in black as shown and a beautiful brown, and it's on sale. Either color would work wonderfully in pretty much an wardrobe I can imagine.

A Foolproof Outfit to Make You Look Thinner...part 1

I swear it works, and it's nothing earth shattering - a pair of loooong wide leg trousers, heels (even 2 inches will do) and a top that skims the body (i.e. nothing form fitting or even waist defining). The idea is that you look long and lean, and it's amazing.

I wore this outfit last week and several people who see me on a regular basis asked if I had lost weight, and one person said I looked particularly skinny that day, everyone loves to hear that.

So, for examples of each piece -

The Helmut Lang pants on sale at Gilt today would be ideal - there are two different wide leg trousers, one black wool pair and a lighter pair (both in fabric and color). For invitation to the online sample sale click here. They are an incredible deal - around $100 for very well made and timeless trousers that usually go for much more.

If you don't want to go that route -
These Sanctuary trousers (on sale!) would work well, just make sure they are longer on you than they are on the model (they should go pretty much to the floor) -

Sanctuary Tuxedo Trouser in Black

These AG cords would be an easy way to recreate the look in a casual way -

A Spring Jumper

Yesterday was sunny and even a little warm after the rain passed. Now as my cold is also passing (finally, it's been a long one) and maybe the winter is subsiding (crossing my fingers) I'm thinking about Spring! So, for Spring, or for any vacations you might be going on -

Insight Oh Why Dress in Vintage Blue

It's an inexpensive little jumper than can be worn with flip flops, or with tights and flats as a jumper. I do love jumpers...

The Catherine Malandrino sale includes the incredible backless dress I blogged about months ago -

Isn't it gorgeous???

A Bad Shopping Experience

A friend of mine bought a top at ellamoss.com, everything seemed fine until she tried on the shirt she got. It smelled funky, but , she thought maybe it was the plastic. Until she lifted her arm and saw a tear in the shirt and the tell tale signs it had been worn before. ew.

But that's not even the worse part, all companies make a mistake at some point or another and what matters is how they deal with those mistakes. They were awful, they could not have cared less, had nothing to replace it with, and the worst part - had no way to make sure my friend didn't have to pay for return shipping. She actually had to pay to ship the offensive shirt back herself. ugh.

I certainly won't ever shop there, I don't care what kind of coupons they give away - if that's what they think of as customer service, forget it.

This is definitely the place to shop -
