Fun Jewelry Sample Sale

Gilt has a great jewelry sale on this weekend. They have a bunch of Jewelry designers represented, and alot of great choices for around $100. These are my favorites so far:

These rosewood and quartz earrings, they would go with absolutely everything, the detail is gorgeous. They are actually $105, and totally worth it.

I like this necklace because while a standard length (16 inches) with the stones it will really stand out . The colors are lovely and it's under $100.

High Heels for the Bride

Now that my wedding is over, it's time to get serious about my sister's wedding - it's in May! She has her dress (it's GORGEOUS of course) but we need shoes. She is shorter than me, and her husband-to-be is more than a foot taller than her, so she is going want higher heels than me. Mine were only 2.25 inches tall, Erica wants shoes higher than 3 inches. Yikes!

Here are some good options -

Liz Rene Couture Women's Giselle Dyeable Pump

I love those, the d'orsay style is lovely. Yes, they look quite a bit like the ones I wore -

Liz Rene Couture Women's Melissa Sandal

and I LOVED mine! And we are sisters, so maybe some things are bound to be similar.

This one is cute too, and for May the sandal feel of it is nice -
Coloriffics Women's Desire Pump

Here is a really high option (with a platform!) -

Dyeables Women's Pearl Dyeable Pump

That last one is not for everyone, but Erica loves very high shoes.

Michelle Obama's Stylist

There is an interesting article in the Times about Michelle Obama's relationship with Ikram Goldman, the owner of the store in Chicago who acts essentially as a stylist for the first lady. I go back and forth between thinking the people complaining about the relationship are sore losers whose designs weren't chosen, and that there is a valid point that it's unlike any past first ladies method of acquiring special outfits.

My Wedding Dress

I never posted a picture of my wedding dress, I thought about waiting for the photos from our photographer but my cousin took this lovely full length of me and I though I'd use it.

So that's me in my dress! I loved it so much, I wish I could wear it all the time.

I didn't have much of a process for choosing it, truthfully I went to the Saks bridal salon by myself armed with a few pages ripped out of a magazine (and all of my opinions of course). Marek, the great guy who helped me there listened to me and brought in 4 or 5 dresses. I liked them all, but I had seen this particular dress online and wanted to try it as well. I didn't think it would look good on me because I have very broad shoulders and very narrow hips. I thought I would look like a linebacker, but lo and behold - no football comparisons to be made. I fell in love with this dress.

It's very much in line with what I like to wear, and the clothes I admire in magazines and online. I can't emphasize how much I love this dress, I felt totally comfortable in it as well - dancing was not a problem. And as a bonus, with the boning and ruching I could actually eat. Now I just hope I can wear again for an anniversary or something...

camisole and sports bra sale

Bare Necessities is offering 25% off of all Jockey and Nike stuff. Jockey maybe isn't a trendy brand, but I have to say I love it. I have this camisole -

in black, I wear it under cardigans, low cut sweaters and dresses, and I always get compliments on it. In fact a friend on Friday night loved it and could not believe it wasn't some way more expensive brand from a department store.

And this would also be a good time to get a new sportsbra with this Nike deal.
Sports Bras at BareNecessities.com. It's time to get back in shape… Work out in style (and comfort).

Job Cuts in the WSJ Fashion Section

They fired Teri Agins. That is terrible, I always liked her columns. And the timing is ridiculous - just before Fall Fashion Week. You can read about all the changes in the section here.

Pink Mascara Logo
is giving an extra 25% sale items, use code Extra25 until next Thursday.

A client has this sweatshirt-type top, and it's surprising cute on - worn over a colorful longsleeve t-shirt with skinny jeans,

This top is gorgeous -

I can imagine it with dark jeans or trousers, and at 40% off it's insanely priced. Check them all out.

Real Work Clothes Are Back!

Finally, people are bringing back business attire - the WSJ looks at the return of the formal office. And contrary to the people quoted in the piece, Ferragamo shoes are not a requirement.

These would be a great place to start -

Cosabella, Gossamer and Pour La Victoire sale at Gilt

I have no idea what happened to that last post, but that is definitely the last time I try to blog in Google Chrome. You'd think they would figure out how to make their own blogging system work in their browser, but clearly not. So I am back in Firefox...

Gilt Group has a few good sales going on today - Pour La Victoire shoes, which I have blogged about before - they have great pumps, as well as sandals. There is also a Ports sale and lingerie sale (Cosabella and Gossamer)- perfect for Valentine's Day!

Here is the invitation link if you aren't already a member - http://www.gilt.com/invite/elenaaronson

They Don't Like Leggings in Germany Either...

A friend in Germany sent me a link to this article in Der Spiegel - Modetrend Schrumpfhose: Zu eng, um wahr zu sein.

After slogging through it I am ashamed to say my German is getting rusty, but I am excited to know the word 'Schrumpfhose' and I am going to try very hard to work it into a conversation today. They are reading leggings as a way to break taboos, or at least I think that's what they are saying. It's interesting.

Thanks for the link Maike.

Bags worth their price...

I saw these bags at a store today, they look as trendy and cute as Kooba bags, the leather also feels amazing, all for a third of the price of a Kooba bag. -

B. MAKOWSKY Jakarta Tote

The one above is the tote, here is the shopper version -

B. MAKOWSKY Jakarta Shopper

I love all the zippers and the shape and they come in many colors including a lovely almost white/dove grey color.

The one below is also nice, I like the slouchy shape but it's still roomy enough for folders,
even a laptop -
