"Green" shopping with designer labels

Ok, really this post is it before I go offline for the weekend - but this Times style article about consignment shopping caught my eye for several reasons - first, I love to purge my own wardrobe by selling things at consignment shops, and second, I love buying things there too (especially bags and shoes!)

When people ask me how to shop for "green" clothes, I generally tell them buy less, and if you can - buy at consignment shops (or vintage of course)

Barneys Sale

LA Bound...

My friend is getting married this weekend in LA, and I'm so excited to be going down there tomorrow for a few days. I have not spent much time there, basically one dodgers game, one pedicure, and a Saturday morning on Pico is all I've done there. Shaina, who is driving us down there has already predicted a sartorial emergency so she made sure I have some of the weekend blocked off for shopping (does anyone really need to ask me??) I've made a short list of some boutiques I'd like to visit. She asked if my fiance needs to be entertained during that time - I guessed that the sheer possibility of seeing Britney Spears will be enough to get him to go anywhere with us and he confirmed that I do indeed know him well.

But now I have to pack, and it's really HOT up here in northern CA so it's got to be really hot down there. I'm thinking a sundress or two, workout clothes, and shabbat and wedding clothes.

I'm wishing I had this dress right about now -

Wedding Stress and Shoes

As anyone who has planned a wedding knows, it's stressful. I don't think I quite appreciated the stresses, and I thought, eh, I am a professional shopper...but whoa. In the first week i got my dress and reserved the place, I thought those would be hard but whittling down the guest list is the most stressful so far.

I'm dealing with it by looking for shoes all the time, like these totally affordable beauties...


of course they have every size except mine so I had to keep looking...



now the only question is what flats do I get for the dancing!

Denim Pencil Skirt

I happen to think a dark denim pencil skirt is something every woman should own, you can wear it to work on casual Fridays (assuming the slit is not too high, test it by sitting down when you try the skirt on) or for fun on the weekends. Pretty much everyone looks great in one, and they come in all price points. Smart bargains happens to have a True Religion denim pencil skirt on sale for $99-

WTF CFDA?

The CFDA awards were last night, (Council of Fashion Designers of America or something to that effect) and someone was asleep at the wheel, or they decided that number sold outweighed any creativity or originality when they award Tory Burch with accessories designer of the year. Ew. so upsetting.

Appropriate work wear

The WSJ had another article late last week about women wearing inappropriate clothes to work, some people blame it on Sex and the City. I'd spread the blame around a bit more, to the PR teams and magazines that published photos of all the young pop stars for the past 10 years.

Anyway, most of us know we can't look to those so called "role models" for appropriate work wear, mainly because work wear for them can consist of a nude sparkly body suit under a rip-away suit (a-la Britney Spears circa 2000)

The characters in Sex and the City are supposed to have 'more normal' jobs, but still wear alot of ridiculous things to work, I mean Carrie once wore a miniskirt that looked normal in the front but had a weird feather tail like thing on the back. not ok. it's just not.

For cute clothes for the office you must remember no cleavage, and most of the time, nothing shorter than the knee. Also crazy fashion unless you work at Vogue or some company like that, probably will only get you noticed for the clothes rather than your work.
