Pink Dresses for Spring...

I watch the show Priveleged. Yes I do. And I like it. A lot. But not as much I like this dress from this weeks show -And from another angle -

I LOVE this dress. It's insane. I love the pleating and draping, the color, everything about it.

I found something remotely like it at Forever 21 of all places -

I won't be running to Forever 21 to buy it though, dresses there just never look right on me, which i suppose makes sense since it is meant for girls half my age.

I did find this Nanette Lepore dress at Revolve -

Nanette Lepore Sunny Day Dress in Punch

It's not quite the same, but for women who don't want to go strapless it's great, with the empire waist that is so flattering on everyone and the lovely pleating detail that I am such a sucker for. I like it. It's perfect for all those Spring weddings coming up...

What not to wear to a bar, among other places

*I tried links, but apparently google chrome does not work for this sort of thing. Guess I need to go back to Mozilla. Rats.

Greg and I went out on Saturday night. In some crazy fit of enthusiasm he thought we should go back to the bar where we met - they have a particular party there once a month where they take volunteer bartenders - I was a volunteer bartender when we met, so we had to do that part again this weekend too.

It was ridiculous. Wherever I turned there were horrifying sartorial mistakes. Like an ascot, I kid you not. And the dude with the ascot was not wearing it in some 'I'm crazy and have my own irreverent style' way. He was SERIOUS about his ascot. And as I found out the second he opened his mouth, he had the know-it-all air to go with it.

There were a surprising number of guys wearing ties, and I have to say I liked that. But they could not make up for the ascot.

As for the women, I have the same complaint I often do - everyone needs to take their body shape into account before trying to wear trends, or anything really. Take a good look in the mirror and figure out your best parts, and the ones you'd like to minimize or camouflage, and then figure out how to do it. Several times during the evening Greg asked me if certain women were pregnant (ugh) in a time when cute flowy tops are available everywhere and at every price point, as well has jeans with every possible rise, there should not be a question.

This is a cute inexpensive option -

If worn with jeans that hit at the right place, no horrifying pregnancy questions.

I also love tops with a banded bottom -

They also hide a multitude of sins.

A good time was had by all, but we went home pretty early and decided then and there we would not be returning. We are officially in couples coma (as opposed to Singles Stamina), the subject of an episode from our favorite show, How I Met Your Mother.

home sick with bad tv

I've been home with a bad cold for days. I mean DAYS... so I've been watching a lot of tv. Including this new show the Ex List, I was hopeful because I liked the star of the show when she was on Grey's Anatomy, but this show is so annoying I will not watch it again.

A woman who is looking for "the one" goes to a psychic and is told she has to marry by the end of the year or she is doomed to solitude for the rest of her life. What? Excuse me? please.
and to add insult to injury, whoever does costuming for the show should go back to the beach they came from.

The show takes place in San Diego, so I guess their clothes are supposed to scream San Diego beach, instead they say sloppy and uninteresting. I mean for the first part of the episode I watched, the main character was wearing a bikini top that was oddly showing above her tank top. Not in a cool or sexy way. it was just annoying. who dresses like that?

And then the sidekicks, each one more annoying than the last. A few of them had great characters on other shows (American Dreams, Dirt) they are not used well here.

Not good that when I write about this show, the word annoying comes up more often than any other.

Mad Men dress

I was scrolling through dresses and saw this one:

Tocca Madrague Print Rosalie Dress in Multi

It totally looks like the adorable dress Betty Draper was wearing during her total breakdown scene last week. AND it's on sale.

Gossip Girl

I am most impressed by fashion when I don't immediately know who has made all the pieces, and usually with Gossip Girl I would have to do a little digging. I think the costumer was on automatic pilot when they outfitted them for tonight's episode - twice during the show I knew exactly who had made pieces Serena was wearing.

In the park when those young girls tell Dan they are on HIS side, her bag - Loeffler Randall, and the during the blackout her dress is Vena Cava. I have to find some pictures.

You can find a newer version of the bag here:

Gossip Girl Addiction

my Gossip Girl Addiction has gone from bad to worse this week. First Monday's episode was fantastic, and now these pictures of Blake Lively and Penn Badgley on vacation together in mexico. Since they aren't working out so well on screen these pictures are keeping the hope alive...

Gossip Girl

It was so good last night, the most satisfying part I think being Blair, Nate and Chuck all rallying together behind Serena and going off to get evil Georgina. Why oh why does the nice guy(Dan) have to be so stupid and easily duped though?

Gossip Girl is Back!

The long awaited first of the post-strike episodes aired tonight, i'm not sure it was actually possible for it to be all that I wanted, but I won't complain.

I will however implore you to read the fantastic article about the show in New York Magazine. It is a cultural phenomenon.

Bluefly Sale and then some

10% off of everything on Bluefly, WOOHOO!!!

Plus lot's of new markdowns at Nordstroms, like LAMB bags and this headband -

to help you get one of Whitney Port's looks from last night's premiere of the Hills, that is of course if you could get past the fact that she thinks G's should be pronounced like K's. How annoyin-k-!

And since we are talking about the Hills, can we talk about how the NYTimes called Heidi a feminist hero? She has had way too many cosmetic procedures to be anybody's hero. Like, um, yeah, how 'bout those seriously collagen-filled lips? Good thing it was cold in Colorado or we would have had to look at her boob-job constantly too.

Maybe LC Should Stick to "Reality" TV?

The WSJ has another article that might be of interest - a profile of Lauren Conrad, otherwise known as LC of Laguna Beach and the Hills, the fine MTV masterpieces of "reality" television.

The article is (supposed to be) about her clothing line, which is more than a regular celebrity licensing deal I guess (but you can be sure it's no L.A.M.B, by far the BEST celebrity line, so good that you can forget it has anything to do with a celebrity). Lauren's line, or some of it anyway is now available at shopbop - to me they look like ridiculously overpriced t-shirts, but that's just me. You can take a look for yourself -

This Audrina dress is $172. But if it doesn't even look good on the model, are people going to buy it? I think it might have been worn by Lauren's friend Audrina, and most likely looked good on her (but I think everything looks good on that girl, and yes, I occasionally watch the Hills, it's research) I mean what does it do for this model? It's not flattering, I suppose if you are super skinny you can wear this and not worry about it, but how many of us really are, or really think about clothes like that?

She also has a line of handbags by Linea Pelle, not sure if she designed them or if they are "inspired by her" but I can tell you they are not at all original. I mean check out the Linea Pelle clutch -

And here is a Cynthia Rowley clutch that came out long before this one -

Coincidence? I think not.

SNL's version of Project Runway

This is a MUST WATCH. It is a hysterical SNL version of Christian, Heidi and Tim Gunn from Project Runway in a new makeover show - the Hot Mess Makeover. Totally fierce.

Is Cashmere Mafia Getting Good?

I might be one of the few who has stuck by this show, I tried Lipstick Jungle and found it horrific so I hope my new-found enthusiasm for CS isn't just that next to Lipstick Jungle it feels like Casablanca. Last night's episode had a joke so funny I actually had to pause, rewind, replay and call someone to repeat it.

Ahh, the beauty of DVR.

Cashmere Mafia Again

Cashmere Mafia aired again and I'm afraid that the next time I watch it will be on mute. Maybe. Oh, let's be honest, I will watch it.

The clothes were even better than last time. The red-head character -whose name escapes me but I keep wanting to call her Miranda both because of THE Miranda on SATC, and because I think the actress is named Miranda in real life, this is the danger of being in so many magazines - her outfits were spectacular. I can't decide which I liked better, the one shoulder number or the pink halter dress. If I find pictures I will post them later.

The product placements were out of control on this one, maybe I just missed them in the first episode, but the Gucci and James Perse placements were unavoidable. Lucy Liu's trophy bag -in lieu of her fiance who dumped her for getting ahead, or as reward for her new job?- that she opened with a big flourish was the Gucci, and annoying guy Grant or whatever kept saying he was going to a James Perse sample sale - James Perse is a luxury basics line (t-shirts, etc).

I stand by my previous statement that Zoe (for some reason hers is the only name I ever remember from the show) wears fantastic office appropriate clothes. The problem I thought, was that they were trying WAY too hard to hammer home the 'difference' between the business school graduates (could they have said business school more times? I might watch it again just to count) and the stay-at-home mom. I guess they have to play up that angle to emphasize the importance of work in these women's lives, the working mom versus the available mom kind of thing, but this just made me feel icky. The evil mom was played by a woman who seems to always play the evil soapy characters (am I revealing to much to say I think she was on Days of our Lives waaaaay back when I watched it? And I mean way back. I swear. By the way - just saw an ad for that show, Marlene and John Black are still doing seriously twisted story-lines. It's like the 15 years since I watched it last never really happened except that their makeup got way heavier)

Sorry, back to the show. To review, clothes great, story-lines, not so much.
Thoughts?

Cashmere Mafia finally aired, and yes, I watched it

I wouldn't call it good exactly, more like a guilty pleasure (admit it, you all have at least one whether it's Gossip Girls or a CSI) Surprise, surprise I really liked the clothes. Other than that it's nothing to write home about but I read a review of it in USA Today that I found INFURIATING. Ok, the paper is not exactly high brow, neither is the show and I will be the first to admit there is nothing nuanced about the characters or story-lines, but to say it's hard to believe that the four leads are business school graduates because they are pretty, well-dressed and talk about relationships is ridiculous. Actually so far I like the character of Zoe, the only one in a real marriage and with kids. Her life is crazy and consists of doing stupid things in order to keep her kids a priority. Plus, she wears fantastic basically work appropriate clothes as opposed to women in other shows in positions of power and authority, like Cuddy in House (I heart House)- no one in their right mind who isn't a stripper shows that kind of cleavage at work.
