Well, Marc by Marc Jacobs has done an updated version that somehow manages to look right, while also referencing those old shoes (admit it, either you had them or they are still lurking in your closet)
check them out in black patent leather -
They have that old shape, while still looking more like a more delicate flat, even a ballet flat shape with a bit of a chunky heel. It would look great with skinny black pants.
